About Iris Avenue
Iris Avenue Records is a company started and maintained by three life long friends, Joe Knox, Atlee "Tha Anthem" Urquhart, and Kyle Ginter. These three grew up with the Mexican border as their backyard and stomping grounds. Having desperate people run through their neighborhood, federal agents driving by, and a constant military helicopter prescence was never an easy thing to deal with, but provided much inspiration for the music these three would come to make. Joe was three years older than Anthem and would watch out for his little brother, and Anthem was three years older than Kyle and would watch out for his little brother.
In December of 2006, they formed Iris Avenue Records in order to provide a venue for the rich yet unheard music of California's extreme southwest. Coming from a variety of different musical styles, Tha Anthem with his multi-linguistic hip hop, Joe with his jazz and breakdance rhythms, and Kyle with his acoustic/indie rock, these three have formed a unique blend in their productions. With all three owners being artists themselves, they truly represent the "indie" ideal.
Iris Avenue is the not only the street they grew up on, but the final trolley stop on the way to Mexico. It is an area of the United States that is nearly indistinguishable from Mexico; forgotten and unheard of. In this sense Iris Avenue Records represents that last bit of true untarnished creativity left in California.
Mission Statement: Iris Avenue Records began as a median to help artist's gain exposure in the continually growing music market in and around southern California. Created by Joe Knox, Kyle Ginter, and Atlee "Tha Anthem" Urquhart, Iris Avenue Records strives to get new progressive music out into the public's ears.
Iris Avenue Records believes that the corporate machinery behind the music industry today has shut down the door to some of the most amazing artists in all of history preferring their own hegemonic interests and profits to an individual's true talent, passion, and artistry. With the advent of the Internet revolution and the advancements in digital music technology, these corporations are slowly losing money and clout.
It is Iris Avenue Record's goal to redefine the music industry in a grassroots manner and help blur the lines of musical regionalism.
